ArcGIS 10 features built-in imagery from Microsoft's service, Bing Maps. We can access the Bing aerial maps directly within ArcGIS. Firstly, in ArcMap, open Bing Maps Aerial. Go to the drop-down menu next to the "Add Data" button, and click "Add Basemap", select "Bing maps aerial". Then we can see the aerial imagery of the earth.
Secondly, we conduct spatial adjustment for census boundaries of Malawi city boundaries, starting with Lilongwi city. The major steps are:
Add extension: Customize>Tool Bars>Spatial Adjustment. Under Spatial Adjustment, go to Adjustment Methods>Transformation-Affine>New displacement link, and select control points, then click “adjust” to complete adjustment. Here we select the spatial adjustment tool “rubbersheet” tool to do the transformation.
Note: Before make adjustment, need to open “Editor” first: Go to “Editor”>”Start Editing”
Another method (haven’t tried yet): Spatial Adjustment>Links>Open Link files
See Appendix for the pictures of adjustment process
